Turmeric

Turmeric is a flowering plant of the ginger family. The roots are used fresh or boiled in water, after which they are ground into deep orange-yellow powder. For thousands of years, this spice has been used in Asia as a dye and as part of traditional medicine. Today, turmeric is used as a key ingredient in many Asian dishes due to its bitter, peppery taste and mustard-like aroma.

The turmeric bedroom contains subtle pops of mustard yellow décor, and, like its namesake spice, remains one of the most beloved in the hotel.

Sweet Paprika

Paprika is a ground spice made from dried red bell peppers. This spice originates from North America, in particular, central Mexico, where it has been cultivated for many centuries. The taste of paprika can range from mild to hot and is often used to colour and season rice, stews and soups. Paprika is also rich in Vitamin A, making it both nutritious and delicious.

This bedroom’s décor incorporated the auburn and russet tones also found in its namesake spice.

Ginger

Ginger is a flowering plant whose roots are widely used as a spice and folk medicine around the globe. Its clusters of white and pink flower buds that bloom into yellow flowers, make it an aesthetically pleasing addition in landscaping around subtropical homes. This spice is a key ingredient in Indian cuisine but also remains a favourite worldwide.

Black Pepper

Black pepper is a flowering vine cultivated for its fruit, known as a peppercorn, which is usually dried and used as a seasoning. It is native to Kerala in South India and is the world’s most traded spice. In ancient times, pepper was often referred to as “black gold” seeing that it was an uncommon and expensive item that only the very rich could afford.

The black pepper bedroom incorporates the luxurious history of its namesake spice through the dark and stylish wallpaper and furniture used within the room.

White Pepper

Both black and white peppercorns are berries from the pepper plant. The difference between the two involves how they are processed. With black peppercorns, the berries are sun-dried after picking which darkens their outer layer. With white peppercorns, the outer layer of the berry is removed either before or after it is dried so that only the lighter coloured inner seed remains. This process changes the flavour profile of white pepper.

The white pepper bedroom is spacious and light with white furniture and blue furnishings. This light colour combination creates a sea-side holiday atmosphere where guests can unwind from a day of work or travel.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. In ancient times, this spice was so highly prized that it was considered an appropriate gift for royalty and even gods! Cinnamon can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes and is often served with sugar in traditional South African pancakes. A tree surely never tasted this good…

Just like its namesake, the Cinnamon bedroom is fit for royalty with gold and marble accents used in the décor and furnishings.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the spice made by grinding the seed of the fragrant nutmeg tree into powder. The first harvest of nutmeg trees takes place seven to nine years after planting, and the trees reach full production after twenty years. The warm and slightly sweet taste make this spice quite popular in baked goods, puddings and confections. The essential oil obtained from ground nutmeg is also used in the perfumery and pharmaceutical industries.

The interior décor of the Nutmeg room incorporates the various shades of brown found in its namesake tree’s bark and seeds.

In keeping with its namesake, the Lemongrass bedroom was decorated in shades of yellow-greens giving it a fresh and natural atmosphere.
